"Patience is a virtue."
We've all heard it, and we know that in many cases, it is true. Sometimes, we just can't jump ahead on that new project because we really, really, really need to wait for those results to come in beforehand. We get it, and we support knowing when to wait.
Perhaps we should consider, however, the fact that sometimes knowing when to act is a virtue, too. You could spend years "researching" stuff and you probably have.
Think about a time when you thought, "I can't believe I waited so long to do that."
When was it? Why'd you think it?
The Internet is a strange, fickle creature. What works today might not work tomorrow. No matter what, there's an element of risk when you work online and that risk fluctuates with time.
This means that in some cases, those hours, days, weeks, months or years of research can be pointless. Sure, you can walk away as an expert on a now defunct piece of internet marketing or technology, but no one wants to pay for dead skills.
Sometimes, the point in time arises when you need to act. Just jump. Go for it. Make the switch.
Whether it's finding the time or energy to switch to self-hosting (it's not that hard or scary), learn SEO, or get on LinkedIn, GO. Whether it's dead simple or takes years of hands-on experience, get started now. If you start today, you're one day ahead of the person who starts tomorrow. If you start today, you're a month ahead of the person who finally starts next year. You know the value of experience. In many cases, experience is the only way to really figure out some of the big stuff in life.
Internet marketing is the same. Of course, certain things, like advertising campaigns, take careful consideration and analysis. Adding profiles to social media programs or trying new SEO plugins can happen right now, though.
You're online for a reason. Whether your run a company that needs a business, blog for fun, or write for a living, the internet is your playground. Find that passion that keeps you going and tap into it to create a one-of-a-kind website to suit your project specifically.
How long did you wait to pounce on your latest business venture, blog concept, or career? Would you wait that long if you had the chance again?
Do one thing that scares you everyday, both personally and professionally. Begin the next big thing right away, and quit kicking yourself for waiting!
Have you followed your dreams? How so? Why not?
